Mobile Trash Inventory

Begining in Fall 2007, the Agriculture/Forestry Committe will begin a mobile trash inventory project along the Roanoke River and its tributaries. With the help of volunteers, the group plans to use GPS units along with GIS (Geographical Information Systems) mapping to identify sources of trash that are within the floodway and that may become mobile during flooding or high water events. Such sources will likely include dumpsters, tire piles, illegal dump sites, and storage facilities within the floodway.
